Protein Technologies

Overview

The Protein Technologies (PT) Unit provides expertise, tools and reagents for the custom production, purification and analyses of recombinant proteins.

The Protein production service includes in silico design (e.g. codon optimization), plasmid cloning, expression into a prokaryotic host (E. coli) or mammalian cells (CHO), and purification by affinity chromatography.

The Biochemical assays service includes receptor-ligand interaction (surface plasmon resonance), enzyme assay development, inhibitor screening (medium throughput), functional assay in cellular models. 

We offer

  • A set of vectors to express proteins in bacteria (E. coli) and mammalian cells CHO)
  • cells (E. coli strains, CHO-S clones)
  • reagents (recombinant enzymes for molecular biology, protein biochemistry and high-throughput screens)
  • equipment (incubators, bioreactors, chromatography apparatus, surface plasmon resonance equipment)
  • advice and protocols for protein purification and analysis
  • full service (from the DNA in silico to the purified protein)
  • assistance and a risk-free service: We do NOT charge if we cannot deliver the protein

  • Ultracentrifuge (LE-80K, Beckman Coulter)
  • Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) analyser (Biacore T100)

 How to access facility services

Users should contact the Facility manger (diego.cotella@uniupo.it) and request a quote by filling out the order form with detailed information about the protein you want expressed.
Once a request is received, a project director is assigned to you. He/she will contact you to help chart the most efficient and economical approach for your project.

The access to specific equipment (e.g. bioreactor, Biacore) will be allowed to trained users only upon manager authorization.
